Adopting an animal from the RSPCA is a legal transaction and the paperwork that you will receive on the day of adoption is evidence of that. 

Anyone wishing to adopt a dog must be over 18 and over 16 to adopt a cat or rabbit.

In the unlikely event that you become unable to care for the animal at some point in the future you are obligated to contact the Reading with Oxon Border Branch in the first instance in order to arrange for it to be re-homed.  Please do not take your animal to other RSPCA shelters.
