The Process

When the Adoption Co-ordinator has received your details they will contact you in order to discuss the animal that you are interested in and his/her requirements. We do put a number of questions to potential adopters to ensure the welfare of both parties and a smooth transaction for all so please be patient with us while we work for the best interests of everyone concerned. The application and vetting process can be strict at times for those animals requiring specific care or training.

The Co-ordinator will pass the contact information of the foster carer to you so that you can arrange to meet the animal you wish to adopt. The meeting often takes place in the home of the foster carer and you will be welcome to bring family members who will be regularly involved in the care of the animal.

The foster carer will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the animal’s history and behaviour however we do respect the privacy of previous owners so would not be able to provide specific information about prior owners or establishments.

Information will be given to you concerning any medical treatment the animal has received while in our care together with information concerning diet, behaviour, general health maintenance, grooming, care, breed requirements where appropriate and toys etc.

When the adoption is agreed a home visit will be carried out before the final stage of adoption takes place. This is carried out at the earliest opportunity although if we need to liaise with another branch it may take a little longer. Providing the home visit is positive the adoption will go ahead and you can arrange a mutually convenient time and day to complete the paperwork and take your animal home.
